An avatar is a graphical representation in 3 dimensions in virtual worlds. Is usually a human representation, associated with a user for the identification on the platform

It will be necessary to create an avatar for accessing the 3D laboratories.

There are two options to create an avatar, one is for students and staff of the UPM and the other one is with a guest avatar, with a maximum duration of one week created. In both cases, just click on the link "Register " on the header of the site and fill the registration form.

Once the avatar is created you can access the virtual laboratories and the user area of the portal

You can access virtual laboratories from Windows , Mac or Linux. the more powerful computer asures the better performance. Laboratory performance depends heavily on the graphics card, so that the better this, better user experience.

As it is a practice done over the Internet, the better your connection is, everything will go smoother.

But even if your connection or your computer is not very good, do not worry, while complying with the minimum requirements, you will enter the laboratories.

There are sometimes when you should have a clean installation or reinstallation of Firestorm or may suggest you a member of the support team, as part of the procedure to solve a problem.

Uninstall any / all copies of Firestorm

Windows

Remove application

Ideally, use the "Add or Remove Programs" feature in the Control Panel (XP) or Programs/Features/Control Panel (Win7, Vista) to remove the application, or just delete the installation folder. Usually located in: C:\Program Files\Firestorm ... or C:\Program Files (x86)\Firestorm for Windows 64-bit ... Removing the installation folder, you will still have the Start Menu folder. So it is better as described at the beginning.

Removing configuration (settings folder)

Firestorm settings can be damaged, especially if you've just suffered a fall; the files are not completely saved, so you can misplace important information. Therefore, deleting the configuration files, it may seem painful, it may be necessary. Here he describes how:

  • Use File Explorer (Windows Explorer) to locate the folder configuration. By default it is hidden in most operating systems. To find it, you'll need to & nbsp; show hidden folders & nbsp;. Now, locate the folder configurations:
    • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR USER NAME]\Application Data\Firestorm
    • Windows Vista: C:\Users\[YOUR USER NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Firestorm
    • Windows 7: C:\Users\[YOUR USER NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Firestorm

NOTE: If you want to keep the chat logs and/or Contact Sets, then you have to make a backup of them before removing the contents of the folder you just mentioned. The folder contains one or more folders in turn, each with its renowned username SL. Within each of these folders, locate the log files of chat. These will have the names of the groups and individuals with whom you have had conversations. Contacts Sets file called settings_friends_groups.xml. Select the chat log files and file Contacts Sets, as desired, and copy them to a location you can easily locate it later, as a temporary folder on your Desktop. After that, you can delete the entire contents of the folder Firestorm. Then proceeds as described below, and install (or reinstall) the viewer, and run once to create the default file again. Once disconnected again, you can copy files chat logs and Contact Sets back to where they were.

  • To preserve specific things like chat logs you can (if you have not changed the path to the saved logs), rename the Firestorm folder - for example, adding a date to the name of the folder Firestorm-15Octubre2016

If you do not want to keep anything (or have already made your own backups) you can completely eliminate Firestorm installation folder and all its contents.

Reinstall

If you've done all the above steps, you must then install Firestorm. Once this is done, you will charge your inventory again:

  • Sign in a quiet region. In your inventory, click Recent Items.
  • Expect your inventory has fully loaded. The process is accelerated if we write random letters in the box where it marks our inventory Filter - eg asdfjwhgf38ds.
  • While charging your inventory, DON´T teleport you anywhere, & nbsp; DON´T interact with your inventory. Speech or entertain yourself for a while on the web.
  • Notice how it is charged. As you see & nbsp; (Fetched ...) & nbsp; at the top of the inventory window is still being charged.
  • Once the inventory completely loaded, close the viewer again.
  • If you have chosen to save chat logs, you should copy them to this point. Search the old folder (the renowned) Firestorm (see "Erasing the Configuration"); you will see one or more folders named with your avatar name/s. Within each you'll find respective chat logs - unless you changed the log path and IM chats \ 's, in which case they will be there where you saved. Copy only the records; & nbsp; not & nbsp; copy any .XML file (if your OS does not show extensions, such as XML, copy only the files that are names of avatars and groups of SL, the the rest are old configurations that can be discarded). Having reached this point, you can remove the old installation folder.

Interaction with the most objects is usually easier because you only need to click with the left mouse button (play) in order for it to perform the action defined in the script (code) of the object.

It is important to note that, as in real life, every action you perform takes a while to run, which is why when you run any action in the virtual world will have to wait a short time before takingon the next .
